Pagar Ayu’s gracious simplicity resides in its all-white facet. The checkerboard motifs are incorporated by hand to highlight the weaver’s subtle artistry. Its lined textures emerge illusively, adding a layer of tactile quality. The pillow’s hem is gently unravelled from its woven fabric, creating a playful note of fringes all over. Inspired by the Indonesian version of bridesmaids, pagar ayu takes the sublime symbolic colour of a wedding ceremony. Its subdued presence and delicate textures offer a graceful touch to a space full of feminine air. The base fabric is handwoven by pedal loom weavers in Pak Kadir’s house, Pekalongan.
